Under general direction of the Director of Parks and Recreation, the Deputy Director of Recreation and Golf manages and leads operations of the Recreation and Golf department in the division and assists in providing vision and leadership to provide integration and internal coordination between the department's work groups as well as help coordinate and respond to daily operational issues. This position oversees Community Center and Recreation staff, including recreation programming and the operations of the Community Center, Splash Aquatic Park, RV Park, Grampsas Gym, and Fossil Trace Golf Course. The position assists the Director in staff and team development, facilitating workflow, operational decisions, planning and organizational development initiatives. This position is one of two deputies that may act as Director in the absence of the Parks and Recreation Director.

Supervisory Responsibilities
Manages managers, supervisors and coordinators who supervise a total of 75-200 full and part-time employees during the course of the year. Responsible for the overall development, direction, coordination, and evaluation of department staff. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
BA/BS degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in parks and recreation, administration, physical education, business, or related field. Master’s Degree preferred. Local Government experience preferred. Equivalent experience may substitute for education. Minimum 7 years progressively responsible management/administration experience in a private or public organization offering recreation facilities and programming.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Valid driver’s license with good driving record.
Ability to obtain CPR and first aid certifications within 30 days of hire.
Certified Parks and Recreation Professional preferred.To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, the public, and other agencies.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to analyze, forecast, and prepare budgets and financial information. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical business situations.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, offer solutions, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of data and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
MATERIAL AND EQUIPMENT DIRECTLY USED
Computer, printer, copier, phone, and related office equipment necessary to perform the essential functions of the job. City vehicle.
