The Role: Analytics Engineering Team Lead

The Analytics Engineering Team Lead will spearhead our technical experts in building scalable data models that underpin IG Group's data-driven future. This role is pivotal to IG's "Smart Business" data transformation strategy, combining hands-on technical expertise with team leadership. You will lead the Looker migration and establish data modeling excellence across the organization.

Responsibilities:

Technical Leadership & Data Architecture

• Lead and develop a team of analytics engineers, providing technical mentorship, career guidance, and architectural direction.
• Manage resource allocation across multiple cross-functional squads.
• Drive the technical strategy and implementation of our Looker migration, ensuring a seamless transition of data models.
• Collaborate with senior stakeholders to align technical solutions with business objectives.
• Champion the development of AI-powered analytics infrastructure and automated insights.
• Partner with Data Engineering and AI/ML teams to optimize our data pipeline architecture.
• Establish and enforce data modeling best practices, testing frameworks, and governance standards for consistency, quality, and scalability.

Team Management & Development

• Manage technical talent development across the Analytics Engineering Chapter, ensuring effective team rotation based on business priorities.
• Lead knowledge-sharing initiatives to enhance IG's analytics engineering capabilities and foster technical excellence.
• Guide cross-functional squads in delivering robust, scalable data solutions within sprint cycles.
• Develop team members' technical expertise and career progression.
• Foster collaboration across IG's four data themes: Business Intelligence, Operational Efficiency, Client Acquisition, and Personalisation.

Strategic Data Solutions & Governance

• Design and build scalable data models to enable self-service analytics across IG's global FinTech operations.
• Ensure data solutions directly support IG's strategic themes and deliver measurable performance improvements through advanced analytics and automation.
• Champion data quality and governance practices for consistency and quality at scale.
• Manage multiple complex data modeling projects simultaneously, delivering critical business data models at pace while maintaining high standards.

Requirements:

Experience

• 3+ years of demonstrated experience in analytics engineering or data modeling roles, with a strong background in building scalable data solutions.
• Proven leadership experience or clear leadership potential, with the ability to mentor technical talent and build high-performing teams.
• Track record of implementing data quality frameworks, governance practices, or technical standards across teams or organizations.

Technical Skills

• Expert knowledge of dbt, including testing frameworks, documentation, and advanced modeling techniques.
• Advanced SQL skills and a deep understanding of data modeling concepts.
• Extensive experience with cloud data platforms, particularly Google BigQuery.
• Hands-on experience managing GCP analytics infrastructure as code using Terraform, including BigQuery datasets, Cloud Composer, dataflow pipelines, and IAM configurations.
• Experience with Python programming for data processing and analysis.
• Familiarity with data pipeline orchestration and workflow management tools.
• Proven ability to drive technical migrations and establish best practices.
