Your responsibilities

• JOB PURPOSE:
• The primary purpose of an Assistant Teacher is to develop and nurture our learners' academic and personal growth, creativity, critical thinking, and courage, fulfilling our school's mission, vision, and learning goals.
• The assistant teacher will work closely with the classroom teacher to help provide an instructional program for learners and will assist in other school programs as required by Board of Trustees policy, contractual obligations, and other responsibilities as determined by the supervisor.
• DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
• ● Assist the teacher with regular lessons and activities using different collaborative models.
• ● Supervise or lead small group activities.
• ● Assist individual students as needed (ELL support, ILP recommendations, etc.)
• ● Taking to, collecting from, and/or assisting with children during specialist lessons
• ● Collaborate positively with all members of the school community (students, colleagues, parents, leaders).
• ● Model the skills and attitudes of global citizenship, antiracism, and intercultural sensitivity.
• ● Support and promote the school’s shared understanding of high-quality learning, mission, and learning goals.
• ● Administering basic first aid or bringing children to the office for medical attention.
• ● Attend school-sponsored events & activities.
• ● Playground supervision or other duties.
• ● Supervise the class when the teacher is not in the room.
• ● Supervise students off-site on school trips and other external visits.
• ● Check student work as assigned by the teacher.
• ● Prepare various teaching aids (e.g., organize centers, posters, manipulatives, etc).
• ● Assist in the maintenance of the classroom organization (e.g. tidying, filing, etc).
• ● Prepare and present displays of students' work.
• ● Stock taking, helping maintain an up-to-date inventory of classroom materials.
• ● If requested in advance through the Elementary Principal, a teaching assistant may provide support to any other area of the school as needed.
• ● Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.
• ● Support for Teaching and Learning: reinforce lessons, review material with students, and help teachers prepare for lessons.
• ● Understand Child Development: understand how children develop to effectively support their learning and address individual needs.
• ● Positive Relationships: develop supportive relationships with students, promoting self-esteem.
• ● Inclusion and Differentiation: understand inclusive practices and support children with diverse needs, including those with learning difficulties or those who are gifted.
• ● Collaboration with Teachers: work closely with teachers, assisting with record-keeping, progress monitoring, and communication with parents.
• ● Safeguarding: place a high priority on the safeguarding of students.
• ● Understanding School Procedures: understand, be aware and follow school policies and procedures.

Our requirements

• Degree in Education and/or a similar field
• Experience in a PreK-12 school setting. (International school experience preferred.)
• English Language Proficiency.
• Authentic interest in working with children.
